Know about Gout
Gout is a disease that is caused by excess build up of uric acids in the joints. Gout was a major health concern in the 1800s and back, so much that it was dubbed “The Disease of the Kings” or “Rich Man’s Disease.” Gout is primarily brought on by high fat diets and consuming too much meat or junk food. In today’s society Gout is becoming a problem once again because so many individuals are eating too much fat and not exercising enough to make up for it.
Gout was such a big problem in the past because so many men ate poor diets and drank alcohol very often. Only the rich men could afford such luxuries, so it was often the poor men who never felt the disease in their life. Kings and other noblemen were known for their gout problems. In the modern world almost anyone can suffer from gout, especially if they do not have a healthy diet and exercise plan.
When Gout goes untreated it can lead to a bad case of “gouty arthritis.” Gout and arthritis are very closely related; however Gout can be much more painful and difficult to live with. It can also be a primary disease, existing on its own, or a disease caused by another medical condition. Gout is mostly located in the big toe but can be felt in other joints, especially ankles, knees, and the spine.
When an individual has gout it makes it impossible for them to move or touch the affected area. Even small things can cause excruciating pain to reverberate through their body. Gout that is not cared for can result in uric kidney stones, which will simply lead to more pain.
Diagnosis of Gout:
Usually an individual will not notice that they have gout symptoms or are experiencing gout related problems. A doctor is usually able to diagnose gout immediately with a few simple tests and examinations of the body. In other cases blood tests and plenty of other testing is necessary to determine if the patient has gout. Sometimes gout is much more difficult to notice, because it is so similar to other diseases like arthritis.
A good doctor will go through the full list of tests to be sure that is exactly what you have, before giving you an improper treatment routine to go through.
